A man living at the Saint Elizabeth Monastery is going to war with Ukraine. It is reported that this is not the first such case

“Brother Oleg” from the Saint Elizabeth Monastery (SEM) has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and is heading to the “SMO” [special military operation].

This was reported in the monastery’s Viber chat by Mother Alexandra (Lyakhova), who coordinates support for Russian military personnel at the SEM, with the following message:

“I ask for prayers for the warrior Oleg, our monastic brother, who has signed a contract with the MoD [Ministry of Defense] and will soon be deployed for the SMO [special military operation].”

At the SEM, the term “brothers” refers to men living at the monastery, mainly at the farmstead in Lysaia Gora. They are not monks, but laypeople, often individuals in difficult life situations to whom the monastery provides shelter in exchange for work. Due to their dependence on the monastery, they are particularly vulnerable to manipulation and propaganda.

“This is not the first such case. The monastery’s spiritual father, Archpriest Andrei Lemeshonok, periodically mentions during meetings that a brother has gone to the SMO, but he has never said that a brother has returned. And all of this happens under the guise of social work and helping the underprivileged,” notes a source familiar with the situation at the monastery.
